Missing Bukit Larut hikers rescued

TAIPING: Five friends who were reported missing while hiking at Bukit Larut here were found safe by rescuers at 7.45pm yesterday.

Acting district police chief Superintendent Ismail Che Isa said the victims, aged between 17 and 20, were lost in the jungle after they took a shortcut route while descending the hill at 3pm.

When they could not reach the foothill, one of them contacted a family member, who then alerted the police.

Ismail said the search and rescue team managed to locate them in a nearby forest, about 6 kilometres from the foothill.

"One of them has injured his leg," he said.
