Male govt staff experience more work-related stress compared to women

KUALA LUMPUR: More male government staff are experiencing work-related stress compared to their women counterparts, Dewan Rakyat told.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said according to a study on government staff in 2011, 30.4 per cent of the male respondents experience high-level of work-related stress compared to 25.3 per cent of the female respondents.

"The study found that overall, 67 per cent respondents experience medium-level of stress and 27 per cent are in high-level of work stress category.

"Meanwhile, 36.9 per cent of the respondents from the management and professional groups are in the high-level of work stress category, 27.3 per cent from the top management and 23.2 per cent are from the implementers group," he said in responding to a question by Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il (correct) Wan Ahmad (BN-Kuala Kangsar) on the study carried out on level of stress among civil servants.

Shahidan said the Public Service Department is the agency responsible to carry out human resources policies among the government staff including psychological matters.
