3 volunteers flown to monitor Yemen crisis

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of three volunteers from Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) have flown to Djibouti, a neighbouring country of Yemen yesterday, to monitor the situation in Yemen and decide the sort of assistance to be channelled.

MRA secretary general Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman said the volunteers will follow the developments in Yemen from time to time and update information to the agency.

“The conflict in Yemen continues to worsen by the day and the situation on the ground making it difficult for the Yemenis to get food supplies, clean drinking water and petrol supplies. Many are trapped and are not able to leave.

“Therefore, we have sent our volunteers to analyse and check on the situation. They will be there for a month working closely with non-government organisation (NGO) in Djibouti and Yemen. Besides monitoring, about RM50,000 and basic necessities such as food supplies, drinking water, cooking oil are donated too,” he said.
