Health Ministry to set up DNA profile database for Perlis death camps: Subra

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry plans to set up a DNA profile database for remains found at Perlis death camps, said Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

The Health Minister said the database could be used for future reference by those looking for their missing family members.

"It is not an easy task to identify the victims with nothing to compare with. Unlike the identification process for the MH17 victims, we have various data and information from their families to match and compare the DNA," he said.

Earlier, Subramaniam witnessed the handing over of about RM1.95 million worth of medicines and medical supplies to the earthquake victims in Nepal by fourteen pharmaceutical companies

He said the medical drugs and supplies would go a long way to ease the victims' burden.

The donations included medicines for wound treatment, skin anti-septic and disinfectant, a variety of antibiotics and anti-microbials, analgesics and paracetamol as well as supplies such gloves, syringes and intravenous catheters.
