Dog whisperer Cesar Millan in town, loves local food

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular television host and dog trainer Cesar Millan loves local noodles.

“The food is amazing here,” said Millan at a Press conference earlier. He was spotted having noodles at Lot 10 earlier.

The 45-year-old TV presenter, who is known for the popular TV show Cesar to the Rescue (now airing in Malaysia) and Dog Whisperer is in town to meet dog owners as part of his Cesar Millan Live Love Your Dogs Tour 2015. The event (sold-out) will take place tomorrow at the Plenary Hall in KL Convention Centre (KLCC) at 7.30pm.

At the show, Cesar will give live training demonstrations, new techniques on how to handle dogs and more.

The friendly Millan believes that it is not dogs who creates problems

“A dog is a teacher in life, and I’d rather have a balanced dog than a trained dog,” he said about his love for dogs.

Having worked with so many dog owners from world leaders of the world to celebrities, he said “trust and respect is the foundation of any man-dog relationship”.

He related his experience working with TV personality Oprah Winfrey. “Oprah’s dog Sophie was biting her other dogs. It was so bad that she had to have doors closed (in certain areas) so that Sophie will not attack her other dogs. Imagine that. Oprah, one of the most influential persons on the planet, but can’t even find balance at home because of her dogs.”

Millan said he noticed the change in Oprah’s energy. “She is usually calm, but when she was facing the situation, her assertiveness turned into fear. So what I did was to change the energy -- the one Sophie was receiving at that moment. After 15 minutes, everything was fine.”

He explained: “The thing is, dogs live in the moment – that’s what we need to understand. Dogs don’t hold on to the past unless we make them hold on to the past. And we do that by feeling sorry for them. It’s the same thing for us human. When we have issues, we don’t want people to feel sorry for us.”

Millan, who came to the United States at the age of 21 (he has told Press at interviews that he sneaked through the Mexico-US border) and had spent nights under highway overpass, is now a US citizen. He landed his first job at a dog grooming store, which is now the Pacific Point Canine Academy which he runs. His former client Jada Pinkett (before she married Will Smith) paid for his English lessons for a year.

Before hosting The Dog Whisperer in 2004, Millan ran a two-acre Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles which specialises in working with large breed dogs. He later introduced a similar facility in Santa Clarita in California. His lists of clients grew to include celebrity friends such as Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Ridley Scott, Jennifer Aniston and last but not least, the US President himself, Barack Obama.

Besides being a TV host, Cesar is also an author of six books, including Cesar’s Way, Be the Pack Leader, How to Raise the Perfect Dog and Cesar’s Rules. He can also be seen in the second season of Cesar to the Rescue on Nat Geo (Astro channel 553).
