New pipes to supply water to Pulau Ketam by year end

KUALA LUMPUR: The installation of new pipes to overcome frequent burst pipes and leakage in the sea floor and rivers that supply water to Pulau Ketam and Sungai Lima, is expected to be completed by year end.

Syabas Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Department general manager Priscilla Alfred said the Federal Government through the Ministry of Energy, Green Technologies and Water (KeTTHA) and the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister’s Department had approved the project.

She said in a statement today that the pipe laying work was using approved horizontal dredging methods and it was a long-term solution.

“The alignment of the pipe will be buried under the sea floor and not located on the sea floor as it is now, exposing it to the outside elements,” she said when commenting on the current status of the burst Polyethylene High Density (HDPE) size 400mm pipe on the sea floor which supplies water to Pulau Ketam, on June 21.

In another development, Priscilla said the unscheduled water disruption in Jalan San Peng, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Hang Tuah and Jalan Davis today was due to a burst pipe (600mm sized mild steel pipe) at the junction of Jalan Imbi-Jalan Pudu at about 1pm this afternoon, caused by excavation work.
