Seven men arrested for series of robberies

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested seven men following a series of robberies at several budget hotels in Dang Wangi and around the city centre here.

Dang Wangi deputy police chief Superintendent Habibi Majinji said the suspects aged between 21 and 39 were picked up in separate raids on Monday.

"We caught some of them at a budget hotel in Sungai Besi while the others were nabbed at condominiums in Batu Caves," he said.

Habibi added that the arrests were made following public tip-offs.

The seven of them were suspected of being active in committing the crime around Dang Wangi, he said.

Police have also seized two Myvi cars, a safe box, six mobile phones, a Canon digital camera, a tablet, five laptops, a police jacket, a security vest, and a machete believed to have been used as a weapon for the heists.

"Initial investigations also revealed that five of the suspects have previous criminal records while all of them were tested positive for methamphetamine," Habibi said.

They have been remanded until Friday to facilitate investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
