Seven men detained for gang fight in Johor Baru [Watch]

JOHOR BARU: Police detained seven men allegedly for their involvement in a gang fight in front of an entertainment outlet in Taman Sutera Utama, here, yesterday.

Johor Baru (North) district police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department were despatched to the scene, following initial information on the gang fight at 2.40am.

"Checks revealed the brawl was triggered over some misunderstanding between two groups of men, and escalated to a fight," he said.



Police detained seven men to facilitate investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code, for rioting with weapons.

An 18-second footage of the incident was uploaded on the Malaysia Nightlife Facebook page.

The video, recorded from a safe-distance, showed a group of men hurling chairs and stanchions at each other. Some were also seen throwing punches and kicks.

Balveer urged those who witnessed the fight to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Farhan Hashim at 011445 5960.
