Curfew in Esszone extended to July 20

KOTA KINABALU: The 7 pm-5 am curfew in the waters of the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) has been extended to July 20, according to the police.

The curfew was supposed to have ended on Saturday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said today the decision to extend the curfew was made after considering the current security situation in the area.

“The curfew will help to curtail and reduce encroachment in Sabah waters,” he said in his speech at a ceremony to hand over Aidilfitri cookies to the security forces.

The text of his speech was read out by his Sabah Police Deputy Commissioner Datuk Awang Sahari EM Nadzeer.

The curfew, which enters its 23rd phase, covers six districts in the east coast of Sabah, involving three nautical miles from the coast to a pre-set point. – BERNAMA
