PM launches new social service model, Social PPP

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched a new social service model for the government and private sector, the Social Public-Private Partnership (Social PPP), aimed at addressing social disparities by delivering high value impact at lower cost.

The initiative, under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS), is collaboration between Malaysian Innovation Agency and Public-Partner Partnership (UKAS) to collectively move towards developing projects in the social sphere.

Najib said Social PPP has been used to finance and facilitate infrastructure, education and healthcare initiatives all over the world.

He said numerous projects have been successfully implemented throughout the country, from construction of university campuses to hospitals.

"With the experience we had, we're now moving forward with the new model Social PPP, which is among a number of initiatives under the NBOS

"NBOS projects have been pivotal in the various transformation programme undertaken for the public service sector.

"Social PPP is important, as it relates to the 11th Malaysia Plan and the six game-changer in the plan. Social PPP is a starting point to promote a whole society approach of social financing model to address social issues as envisioned in the 11th Malaysia Plan," he said during his speech at the launch.

Seven companies are partnering with the government for the Social PPP including Credit Suisse, Hap Seng Group, Hong Leong Foundation, Westport Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Siti Sapura Husin and YTL Foundation.

Various ministries and agencies will be working together to develop and implement numerous programmes to help stimulate rapid and sustained growth, develop communities and create harmony under the NBOS initiatives

Also present at the launch were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Mah Siew Keong and Chief Secretary to the government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa.
