More new homes to be completed for flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has built 97 new permanent houses for the flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak and Pahang and will be building 88 more before Hari Raya Aidilfitri said Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

He said initially 2,094 new houses to be built were identified, however the federal government has decided to only build 1,415 houses while the state governments will look into building the remaining 573 houses.

Shahidan said in Kelantan a total of 66 houses have been built of which 37 houses built by Federal government while 29 were built by state government.

He said 416 more are still under construction while 802 are under land management level.

The Federal government has built 21 units in Pahang with 72 still under construction and 25 more under land management level with the state government.

Shahidan said three units have been built in Terengganu and six in Perak.

During the monsoon season last year, several states were hit with one of the country's worst flood in history.
