NFCorp's chairman Salleh sues businessman for defamation

KUALA LUMPUR: National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail has filed libel suit against Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail over his Facebook postings.

Salleh's counsel Al-Firdaus Shahrul Naing filed the defamation action against the business consultant at the High Court Registry here this morning.

Salleh claimed Shamsubahrin posted six alleged defamatory FB postings between May 19 and June 23.

He alleged the postings painted him as corrupt, dishonest, immoral, and abused his status, influence and power, among other allegations.

The FB postings were related to Shamsubahrin's May 18 conviction for five cheating charges and 17 money laundering counts involving RM1.755 million.

Shamsubahrin is currently appealing the conviction which saw the Sessions Court hand down an eight-year jail term, RM611,895.94 fine and four rotan strokes.

The plaintiff seeks general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, court order for the defendant to remove the FB postings and from re-publishing the statements, costs, and any further relief deemed fit by the court.
