Anwar's former political secretary sues two Bersatu leaders for defamation, seeks RM1 million compensation each

KUALA LUMPUR: The former political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed lawsuits against two Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia leaders, seeking RM1 million compensation each for allegedly defaming him.

Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador, who was Perak PKR chief, named Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, and Dr Afif Bahardin, in the writ of summons filed at the High Court here on Jan 22.

Farhash claimed that Badrul Hisham had issued slanderous remarks against him in a press conference on Nov 24 last year, while Afif did the same in a media statement on Nov 15.

Some of the slanderous remarks alleged that Farhash was the 'boss' of the Military External Intelligence Organisation, operating as the national intelligence agency, a security risk to the country and society as well as a person with wild characteristics and unfit to hold any government positions.

The statements were published in several social media platforms such as YouTube, Tik Tok, Whatsapp, which could be viewed by individuals who use the applications in the country or abroad.

Farhash said the duo had deliberately wanted to destroy his reputation with the aim to garner support from the public or their political parties.

He said they were also using him as a political tool to raise their reputation and to incite society's hate towards him by spreading untrue information.

Farhash also sought for an injunction order against the duo from making further statements.

He also asked the duo to withdraw the slanderous remarks and they are to issue a public apology to be published in electronic media and newspapers.

Apart from the RM1 million compensation each from the duo, he also sought aggravated damages and exemplary damages as well as other cost and relief deemed appropriate by the court.
