KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, hit the Andaman Islands in the Indian region at 11.16am today, according to the Meteorological Department.
It said in a statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was at 11.4 degrees north latitude and 95 degrees east longitude, 782km northwest of Padang Besar, Perlis.
The earthquake did not pose any threat of a tsunami, it added.--BERNAMA
