High Court decision on MIC re-election remains

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court dismissed a bid by MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel and three others to stay its verdict upholding the MIC re-election directive.

Senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh said judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad today did not grant the application to stay the June 15 High Court decision.

Asmabi disallowed the bid by Palanivel, former MIC secretary-general A. Prakash Rao, and party vice-presidents Datuk S. Sothinathan and Datuk S. Balakrishnan for a stay pending their appeal at the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal has previously set July 13 to hear the appeal against the High Court ruling.

Amarjeet - who appeared for main respondent the Registrar of Societies (RoS) - said Asmabi ordered the four MIC leaders to pay RM5,000 cost to each respondent.

The respondents were RoS, senator Datuk S. Vigneswaran and MIC vice-president Datuk M. Saravanan.

Counsel Jadadish Chandra appeared for Palanivel, Prakash, Sothinathan, and Balakrishnan during the chamber matter today.

The four MIC leaders seek to overturn the June 15 decision in favour of the RoS re-election directive.

On that date, the High Court dismissed two bids to maintain MIC's disputed 2013 polls results.

One bid was sought by Palanivel, Prakash, Sothinathan and Balakrishnan. The second bid was by the party's strategic director A.K. Ramalingam.

The judicial review bids named the RoS, its director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah, Vigneswaran, Saravanan, and home minister, as respondents.
