Alternative solution needed for new water plant in Kundasang

KOTA KINABALU: The government need to find alternative solutions as the June 5 Ranau earthquake has disrupted implementation plans of a new water source plant in Kundasang.

Deputy Chief Minister cum State Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said RM110 million has initially been approved for the project but the proposed site has been affected following the disaster.

"We were at the process of conducting bio-engineering but when the quake happened all those planned had to be reviewed.

"This is for the best as the site was no longer suitable and we need to find other locations," he said when replying to an additional question from Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin (PKR-Klias).

Lajim during the state assembly sitting highlighted that people in Kundasang have been receiving water from Koperasi Pembangunan Desa (KPD) for the last 20 years which is not up to standard.

Pairin said the government is doing their best to expedite the project and hoped the new water plant project could be kickstart next year.
