Woman fatally attacked by crocodile in Saratok

SIBU: A woman was found dead after she was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while catching fish in Sungai Krian, Saratok yesterday.

The victim identified as Bera Aun, 46, from Minggu longhouse was believed to have gone missing at about 5 pm.

In confirming the incident, Saratok district police chief DSP Lee Thai Lien said police received the report at 5.04 pm and informed the Fire and Rescue Department, Rela and Civil Defence Department to launch a search and rescue operation.

He said the victim was found by the SAR team and villagers one kilometre from the scene of the incident at about 7 pm and later brought to the Saratok Hospital.

Crocodile attacks are frequently reported to occur in Sungai Krian and its tributaries which are well-known as places for catching prawns.

In June last year, a 13-year-old boy, Telecson Ancharang, 13, was saved from crocodile attacks while catching prawns with his uncle, Ngelambong Chundai in Sungai Supa, Senyawan, Krian.

The victims sustained injuries on his left wrist and both legs. – BERNAMA
