Three splashed with acid while collecting overdue rent

ALOR STAR: A 22-year-old medical student suffered 30 per cent burns on his face, hands and body when he was splashed with acid near his home at Kampung Baru Bakar Kapur, Kuala Kedah here yesterday.

In the 6pm incident, the victim, who was also with his brothers aged 11 and 19 were also injured after they went to a tenant’s house to collect the overdue rent since February this year.

A source said upon arrival at the tenant house, the husband, in his 60s, believed to be the main suspect, was not at home and only his wife in her 50s with his two children were at home.

“The wife then called her husband and told him that there was a group of youngsters coming over and trying to cause chaos at her home.

“The suspect then lodged a police report at Kuala Kedah Police Station before he went home and showed the police report to the victim and his brothers,” he said.

The source said while the victim and his brothers were reading the report, the suspect dashed into his home and brought a plastic bottle containing acid and splashed it on the victim.

“The victims and his brothers then ran towards a nearby river and jumped into it, screaming for help,” he said.

A police spokesperson confirmed the incident and the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous injury using a dangerous weapon.

The victim was transferred to the Penang Hospital from the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) this morning while his brothers were receiving treatment at the HSB.
