Man with Down Syndrome splashed with hot water

BAYAN LEPAS: A man with Down Syndrome was splashed with hot water inside the lift of an apartment here today.

The incident caused the 33-year-old man to suffer burns on his body.

Video footage of the incident has since gone viral.

The victim's 23-year-old sister has lodged a police report over the incident.

A police spokesman said at about 9.20am today, the victim had complained to his sister that a woman had splashed hot water on him while they were inside the lift.

At the time of the incident, only the both of them were inside the lift.

"The victim was taken to the Penang Hospital for treatment.

"The medical officer who attended to the victim confirmed he suffered burns on the front and back of his body, on the right side, due to hot water.

"The victim is in a stable condition," he said.

The spokesman said police have identified the suspect, a neighbour.

"We are still investigating the cause of the incident. This is because the victim has never spoken to the suspect before this.

The case is being probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz said he was saddened by such a cruel act.

"I hope appropriate action is taken against the culprit.

"I also pray that the victim, who is disabled, will recover soon," he said on Facebook.
