RTM server room damaged in fire

KUALA LUMPUR: A server room at Wisma TV of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), here was damaged in a fire, early this morning.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the level 5 incident, which also houses the RTM administration department.

Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue Department station head Che Shaari Abdullah said a distress call was received at 8.27am, before 27 fire fighters in two fire engines from Pantai and Seputeh stations were dispatched to the scene.

“An auxiliary policeman on duty heard the emergency alarm from the 5th floor and alerted the fire department. When firemen arrived, there was thick smoke billowing from a server room while other rooms on the same floor were not affected.

“Firemen managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading in about 10 minutes,” he told Bernama at the scene.

Che Shaari said the cause of the fire and estimated losses were still under investigation conducted by the forensic unit.

Meanwhile, auxiliary policeman Muhammad Hafiz Dzulkafli said, he heard an emergency alarm coming from the first floor and smelled smoke.

“Right after I heard the alarm, I rushed to the air-conditioning control room to switch off the main switch but the smell of the smoke became stronger,” he said.

He contacted the fire and rescue department at 8.27am when he saw thick smoke from the window at level 5.-- BERNAMA
