No show at Dataran Merdeka

KUALA LUMPUR: No protestors were seen at Dataran Merdeka here as of 3pm despite the planned mass demonstration following the removal of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the deputy prime minister scheduled today.

New Straits Times check shows that contractors were seen busy setting up for the upcoming Hari Pahlawan celebration this Friday and only tourists and press members were at the location.

City police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said the demonstration was not held as of 2pm, however police would continue monitoring the situation.

"I think these people had intentionally made viral the post (in social media sites) to see if anyone shows up. But nothing is going on there.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and if needed we will deploy our men there," he said when contacted.
