LATEST: Only unimportant documents destroyed in Bukit Aman fire: IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Two floors of Menara 2 building in the federal police headquarters caught fire at about 5.20pm today.

City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail said 24 firemen from Hang Tuah, Sentul and Titiwangsa fire stations were deployed to the scene.

The building caught fire at level nine and 10 of the building.

Azizan said firemen managed to control the fire at 7.47pm.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the incident in his tweet.

"I confirm that level 10 of Menara 2 building caught fire today. The fire has been put off and no casualties were reported. Cause of fire is being investigated," he tweeted.

He added only unimportant documents were destroyed in the fire which did not affect the office area, urging people to “stop spreading rumours”.

This was in reference to some people who had posited on social media sites that the fire was to get rid of certain evidence.
