Zahid: Police must tackle illegal activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi attended a Hari Raya do organised by Desa Tasek Police Quarters Residents' Association, here, today.

In his speech, Zahid said he would apply for RM500,000 government allocation for repair works at the quarters and also look into a request for a football field by the association.

The quarters built about 20 years ago, have 24 blocks which houses about 6,000 residents.

Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also the Home Minister urged police to carry out their duties diligently.

He said those protecting illegal activities like gambling outlets will not be protected.

"I have directed all the police chiefs to eradicate gambling 100 per cent in their state. Not one religion agrees with gambling activities," he said in his speech.

Zahid hoped the public could support the force in their bid to eradicate the illegal activities.

He said there were also concerns of Internet abuse, especially social media, that could create disharmony among Malaysians.

"Communication is now at our fingertips and we no longer depend on verbal communication. If we can maintain harmony among us, Insya-Allah (God willing) we can improve safety due to cooperation among all parties," he said.

Also present were City Police Chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa and the Residents Association chairman Buhari Raihan.
