KL City Grand Prix: Check traffic diversion route during event

KUALA LUMPUR: A traffic information centre for the KL City Grand Prix which will be held between Aug 7 and 9 has been set up.

Event organiser GT Global Race (M) Sdn Bhd said the public can call the 24-hour dedicated traffic information centre at 019-374 7774.

“The public will be able to get essential information on event days especially on stretches of roads that are closed and diversions.

Roads that will be affected are mainly Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Perak and Jalan P. Ramlee. (refer to map).

“Although traffic and access plans have been focusing on minimising disruption, it is inevitable that during the later stages of preparation and during the event, the city will be busy with more than 100,000 people expected at the race.

“We encourage the public to use public transportation to avoid being stuck in traffic as several roads will be closed for the event,” read a statement on the organisers’ website www.gtcitygrandprix.com.

The affected roads will be closed from 6am on Aug 7 to 6pm on Aug 9.

Those who commute using rail services can alight at either KLCC or Dang Wangi LRT stations and Bukit Nanas and Raja Chulan Monorail stations.

To accommodate diversions for motorists at stretches that are closed, two-way traffic has been proposed for Jalan Mayang, Jalan Pinang and Jalan Sultan Ismail near the race circuit.

Meanwhile, those who live in the vicinity of these roads can call the additional hotline number 019-364 5888 for more information.

Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd national Press officer Nor Lina Ayob when contacted said the race circuit will begin in front of Suria KLCC beside the Petronas Towers and proceed anti-clockwise around the 3.2km circuit through Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Perak before heading back up Jalan P. Ramlee to complete the circuit.

“The programme officially opens on Friday (Aug 6) with free practice sessions for all categories.

“Saturday will feature the qualifying sessions as well as the opening races for the three support races.

“Sunday will be Race Day with the final race for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, two more races for the Formula Masters and V8 Supercars Series and the grand event at 5pm,” she said.
