GHB says it will take over Kita by Merdeka Day

GEORGE TOWN: Pas breakaway group Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) is set to take over Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air party (Kita) by Merdeka day.

Penang GHB pro-tem chairman Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the takeover of the party would be made through an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled to be held soon.

“It is easier for us to takeover an existing party rather than starting a new one.

“After the EGM, we would go to the Registrar of Societies for an endorsement, it would be similar to the Keadilan and Parti Rakyat Malaysia merger, ” he said in a sidelines of a press conference at Komtar today.

Mujahid, who is also Parit Buntar MP, said GHB would make a formal announcement on the impending merger of its party with the ‘new Pakatan’ by Merdeka day.

"The new Pakatan will be a rejuvenated one." he said without adding further.

Earlier, Mujahid witnessed the reappointment of former municipal councillors that were asked to resign following the strained DAP-Pas relations last month.

Penang Island City Council councillor Mhd Nasir Yahya and Seberang Prai Municipal Council councillor Dahalan Fazil was reappointed effective tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Kita chairman Zamil Ibrahim slammed the attempt by GHB to ‘infiltrate’ and ‘kill’ the party.

“I would like to call all Kita members to be patient and I will work hard to make sure our party would remain, although it would be killed by GHB.” he said in a statement today.
