VEP registration to start on August 15

NUSAJAYA: Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) registration for Singapore-registered cars entering Johor will begin on August 15, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi.

Once registered, and after purchasing a special card, these Singapore vehicles will be allowed into Johor checkpoints for free for a one-month trial period.

Aziz said that those who fail to register their vehicles will not be permitted to enter the state via the Causeway in Johor Baru nor the Second Link in Gelang Patah when the VEP takes effect on Sept 1.

"Singaporeans can register their vehicles at all the 72 counters in both the Causeway and Second Link as well as R&R areas near the two main entry points. However, we encourage online registration through the Road Transport Department (RTD) website.

"RTD will then issue a radio frequency identification (RFID) card after a RM10 registration fee is paid. The registration is valid for five years. The tag will need to be renewed upon expiry, or when the owner buys a new car," Aziz told reporters at the Sultan Abu Bakar customs, immigration and quarantine building in Gelang Patah today.

Aziz said Singapore-registered cars will be charged RM20 per entry for VEP starting Oct 1 after the trial period ends.
