Pas members advised against GHB

GEORGE TOWN: Some 30 state Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) pro-tem committee members have been advised against party hopping by the state and central disciplinary committees, said Penang Pas Commissioner Mohd Fauzi Yusof

Fauzi said the GHB's bid to take over Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) by MerdekaDay  would speed up the expulsion process of their Pas membership for the splinter group.

"The movement's members are urged to remain committed to Pas by the party senior members or risk being sacked.

"We have made it clear to those involved in GHB that impending immediate membership termination takes places upon joining any politcal party. The choice is in their hands," he told New Straits Times when contacted yesterday.

Fauzi said the act of joining Kita was akin to "betrayal" which cannot be tolerated in the party constitution.

He said the advisory on GHB members in Penang had been in full swing to urge the Islamic movement to have a change of heart in joining Kita.

"We have identified those being associated with joining Kita.

"Our aim is to make the errant splinter group to reaffirm their allegiance to Pas. They have put their memberships on the line," Fauzi said.

Penang GHB pro-tem committee chairman Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa had said the planned Kita takeover would be made through an extraordinary general meeting scheduled to be held soon.

Mujahid said GHB would go to the Registar of Societies for an endorsement but declined to reveal how the takeover plan would be carried out.

Kita chairman Zamil Ibrahim slammed the attempt by GHB to "infiltrate" and "kill" the party.

Bernama reported Kelantan Pas had begun identifying party members who have associated themselves with GHB set up by ousted leaders who lost in the recent Pas muktamar (general assembly).

Pas deputy spiritual leader and state commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the party had "eyes and ears" in every branch who would report to the state committee level before a formal complaint was submitted to the central disciplinary committee for action.

The Kelantan menteri besar said in the party constitution, state or party wings were able to report to the central Pas when members flout party rules and the disciplinary committee would decide on the cases.

Last Thursday, Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly said the party would take appropriate action against leaders and members who attend the GHB planned roadshow.
