Ringgit slightly higher in the opening

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar today on mild demand for the local unit, dealers said.

At 9 am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.8215/8255 against the greenback from the 3.8230/8260 recorded last Friday.

A dealer said investor interest had shifted more towards the ringgit following sluggish wage data from the United States, casting some doubt on the Federal Reserve’s plans to raise rates in the coming months.

However, against other major currencies, the ringgit traded lower.

It depreciated versus the Singapore dollar to 2.7823/7858 from 2.7775/7799 last Friday and fell against the yen to 3.0806/0848 from 3.0771/0800.

The ringgit was down against the pound sterling at 5.9696/9770 from 5.9509/9563 recorded on Friday and declined against the euro to 4.1949/2000 from 4.1816/1860. – BERNAMA
