Fisherman feared drown while fishing

PONTIAN: A fisherman is feared drown after he was thrown out from his boat by strong wave while fishing four nautical miles from the Ayer Baloi beach at 3am today.

The victim Faizal Suhep, 40, who is currently classified as missing at sea, was fishing with fellow fisherman Anizam Anim, 44, at the time of incident when sudden strong wave hit their boat and tipped the boat over, throwing both of them into the water.

However, Anizam who was washed away by the current near the kelong in Api-api area was saved by some fishermen who had spotted him in the water, 11 hours after he was adrift from his capsized boat.

The victim was immediately sent to the Ayer Baloi clinic for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Efforts to search for the missing victim is still on going by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

Captain (Maritime) Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said Anizam was wearing a life jacket and had stayed afloat until he was found while Faizal was last seen wearing only a long sleeve black T-shirt and jeans.

Aminuddin advised fishermen who are going to sea during this Southwest monsoon season, which usually creates strong current and big waves, to always be mindful of wearing life jackets.
