SHAH ALAM: A 13-month old baby girl drowned in a pail of water in a bathroom at her home in Kampung Lombong, here, yesterday morning.
In the 5.15am incident, the mother was ironing her work clothes and did not realise that the baby had woken up and crawled to the bathroom.
Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said the mother who is a teacher, went back into the bedroom after she had finished ironing her clothes and discovered that her baby was missing.
"She saw that the bathroom door was opened and rushed inside only to find her baby face down in a pail of water.
"The baby was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang and was declared dead upon arrival," he said when met at the handover ceremony of the Shah Alam Hospital, here, today.
Shafien said the post mortem result confirmed that the baby had drowned and there was no other physical injuries.
