Floating solar power plant project in its last stage

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan state government is in the last stage to carry out its floating solar power plant pilot project in Sungai Terip Dam, here.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the power plant, first of its kind in the country, would generate between seven and 10 megawatt (MW) of power.

“The state is waiting approval from the Energy Commission as well as reviewing the shareholdings with the involved companies.

“At the moment, the state has four solar power plants, which located in Pajam, Gemas, Kuala Sawah and Bukit Palong. Sungai Terip dam will be the fifth in the state.

“With the five solar power plants, Negri Sembilan will be the major solar energy producer in the country, which will produce 32MW of energy,” he said after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by state secretary Datuk Mat Ali Hassan here today.

Mohamad said the energy would be sold to Tenaga Nasional Berhad before transferring to nearby households, adding that the 32MW would able to supply to more than 20,000 households in the state.

He said the project was implemented in cooperation with private companies that have expertise in handling it.

“We hope in the future, the solar energy will also be used for industrial sector. This is to diminish our dependency to fossil fuels, and a good way to mitigate global warming.
