PUTRAJAYA: The Felda community can play bigger role in nation development, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Najib in his speech at Seranta (Felda) Raya do said Felda is a huge group that could also contribute and play an important role in nation-building.
"Felda is a huge community with 315 settlements and 112,635 families. There are about two million people from Felda families nationwide.
"This, he said, could be achieved through networking of people listed in the Felda database generations in Klang Valley of about 53,000 which comprises of Felda's second generation.
"I hope that they can play a role in explaining government policies, current affairs as well as contribute in bringing the nation forward. It is hope that this group can be an influential force not only in Klang Valley but nationwide, in general. This is the second KPI (key-performance index) for Seranta after it has achieved the first one of establishing the database," said Najib at the event held at Puspanita building in Precint 10 earlier.
He said Felda community must strive to become both political and economic powerhouse as both are inter-related.
On a different matter, Najib said he would leave the acquisition plan on Eagle High (Plantations) by Felda Global Ventures (FGV) to its shareholders but decision should be profitable to both parties.
It was reported that FGV has signed Heads of Agreement with Rajawali Group to acquire 37 per cent stake in PT Eagle High Plantation for USD680 million.
Under the proposed acquisition, FGV will pay USD632 million in cash for 30 per cent stake and 95 million new FGV shares (for the remaining).
