PM: Media plays crucial role in providing views and insights

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the media plays an important role in providing views, insights and admonition in a meaningful democratic environment.

He hoped the media, along with its role in uplifting the dignity of the people and the nation and boosting national growth, would demonstrate knowledge, resilience, discipline and concern for society.

"Just as I mentioned recently, I am somewhat affected by the big issues facing the country, such as pursuing faster growth, facing challenges like digital transformation, energy transition, skills, resilience and young people's expertise in certain fields.

"All of this does not interest some political figures, who are still bound and trapped in outdated and stagnant thinking.

"I hope that during this Ramadan season, which serves as a time of spiritual growth and reflection, we can strengthen our faith, deepen our knowledge, and enhance our discipline," he told reporters after breaking fast with 200 media practitioners at Seri Perdana here today.

Also in attendance were his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Present were Media Prima Group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Syed Aljunid, Media Prima Group managing director Rafiq Razali, Group Managing Editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman and New Straits Times Group Editor Farrah Naz Karim.

Print, electronic and online media practitioners from over 70 local media agencies, including Sabah and Sarawak, local and international media clubs, and media veterans were celebrated at this event.
