2 Indonesian oil tankers detained for entering Pengerang waters illegally

KOTA TINGGI: Two Indonesian oil tankers were detained by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for illegal harbouring in Pengerang waters at 4pm on Wednesday.

The two vessels, MT Tabonangen 18 and MT Tabonangen 19 registered in Banjarmasin, Indonesia were spotted by the MMEA about 2.5 nautical miles Southeast of Pulau Lima.

One of the vessels was carrying 450 litres marine fuel oil while the other tanker was cargo-less.

Tanjung Sedili MMEA maritime captain Amran Daud said two vessels failed to get a clearance to enter Johor waters as they did not inform the Johor Marine Department when the crossed through the Pengerang waters.

He also a total of six ship crew aged between 23 and 55-years old were arrested and sent to Tanjung Sedili MMEA office to facilitate investigations.

"Under Section 491B (1)(L) of the Trade Merchant Ordinance, those who failed to inform the authority upon entering Malaysian waters, are liable to a fine of up to RM10,000 and jailed two years.
