Pas could be paralysed when GHB officially formed

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor chapter of Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) has predicted that Selangor Pas will be paralysed when the new party is officially formed.

State GHB coordinator Ir Izham Hashim said he believed many Pas branches will close when their members join GHB en bloc.

"You will be surprised to see how many branches and divisions will be dissolved when the party is launched.

"In Kelana Jaya, almost all members will quit, you just wait and see. There will even be branches disbanded," predicted Izham, who is also Kelana Jaya Pas chief.

Izham said so far, GHB already has 3,000 members in Selangor alone and the number is expected to exceed 10,000 before the official launch of the party on August 31.

"We already have set ups at all 22 parliamentary divisions with each having about 20 committee members. We are targeting to get 500 members from each division," he said in a press conference to announce the establishment of the Selangor chapter of GHB, here, today.

Izham was also confident GHB will be accepted into the Pakatan Rakyat fold as a replacement for Pas as DAP is not expected to resume cooperation with Pas following a decision to sever ties with the Islamist party.

"Ideally, Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali wants all (Opposition) parties to work together, but the question is, will DAP be willing to work with Pas?

"If there is no DAP or Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), there will be no Pakatan, but if there is no Pas, we can be its replacement," he said.

Also present were two Pas assemblymen who had declared support for GHB, Saari Sungib from Hulu Klang and Hasnul Baharuddin from Morib.
