TEMERLOH: Deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi must have strong evidence on allegations that an Umno leader is attempting to topple the government if he is making the matter public, party vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said.
"This is serious and I am confident that Zahid has valid proof on the bid by a top leader to oust the government," he told reporters after the opening of Umno Kuala Krau Umno delegates meeting today.
On Saturday, Zahid disclosed a plan to topple the government by an Umno leader who was allegedly working with the opposition.
He said the plan was to obtain statutory declarations from the opposition members of Parliament and to garner the support of Barisan Nasional lawmakers.
