Police bust drug processing lab, arrest five including Iranians

GEORGE TOWN: Police have crippled a drug syndicate in three separate raids and seized 324kg believed to be syabu (in liquid form) worth RM20 million.

Federal Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said acting on information, Bukit Aman Narcotics Department and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) raided a drug processing lab at Bukit Mertajam here.

“At the lab, we seized the liquid drugs and arrested three men, including two Iranian.

“The first raid led us to two apartments, one in Sungai Nibong and the other in Batu Ferringhi, where we arrested two more people, including a woman.

“The suspects, aged between 24 and 58 have been remanded until August 27 for further investigation,” he told reporters at a press conference here today.

Mokhtar said police also seized RM4,000 in cash, various jewellery, two cars and one motorcycle estimated to be worth RM69,000.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for distributing drugs, which carried a mandatory death sentence.
