Felda Sening wins RM1m cash for Felda Cheerfulness Village Award

KUALA TERENGGANU: The spirit of togetherness and unity among villagers are the reasons why Felda Sening in Kota Tinggi, Johor, has emerged as the winner of Felda Cheerfulness Village Award 2015 (Anugerah Keceriaan Kampung Felda).

The land settlement scheme has defeated nine others land schemes and walked away with RM1 million cash during the Felda Settlers' Day 2015 celebration today.

The celebration was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. It was held at the State Sports Complex stadium in Gong Badak here, today.

Felda Senin chief Juraimi Jawahir, 66, said it was an honour that the village managed to grab the award after being the finalist for three years.

"We are very grateful with the reward. We will distribute the sum fairly to all the settlers in our land scheme which consists of 505 families. Each family will receive RM1000," he said.

Juraimi said the balance will be used for village development.

"We have several programmes such as to upgrade homestays and other small industries such as related to the production of crackers and bird nests"

To date, there are 16 homestays operating in the village.

Meanwhile, the winner of Tokoh Imam Felda 2015 went to Abdul Rahman Lias, 70, from Felda Bukit Bading, Hulu Terengganu. He pledged to donate part of the RM15,000 for charity purpose.

"I will also use the money to perform umrah with my wife Zainab Abu Bakar, 67," said the father of seven children who has been serving as as Imam at the village for the past 40 years.

Abdul Rahman was a finalist in the same category in 2010.
