Bursa Malaysia extends losses at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: – Bursa Malaysia extended its earlier losses at mid-afternoon today, dragged down by selling in finance and banking stocks.

At 3.01 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 14.75 points weaker at 1,594.46.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index gave up 80.14 points for 10,878.46, FBMT100 Index fell 83.59 points to 10,634.97 and the FBM Emas Syariah declined 31.14 points to 11,393.09.

The FBM Ace eased 38.55 points to 4,898.8 and the FBM 70 fell 35.51 points to 11,550.74.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index rose 7.38 points to 3,071.2 and the Plantation Index improved 10.27 points to 6,789.33.

The Finance Index dropped 256.98 points to 14,006.4,

Market breadth was negative with losers thumping gainers by 403 to 260, while 264 counters were unchanged, 850 untraded and 10 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.32 billion shares worth RM1.25 billion.

Of the actives, AirAsia gained 4.5 sen to 94.5 sen and KNM inched up half-a-sen to 47 sen. APFT slipped half-a-sen to 21.5 sen.

Among heavyweights, Maybank fell 33 sen to RM8.44, Public Bank (-24 sen to RM17.76), TNB (-six sen to RM11.12) and Axiata (-12 sen to RM5.99).
