Put up National flag during Merdeka or no renewal of business licenses: Negri MB

SEREMBAN: Starting next year, business operators who fail to put up the National flag at their premises during Merdeka day celebration will not able to renew their business licenses, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Mohamad said the new regulations were mooted following this year’s celebration.

“From my observation, premises showed a low spirit of patriotism despite the various calls and statement issued by the state government to put up national flag between Aug 15 and Sept 16.

“When I passed by Seremban town, among 50 premises, only one had put up the national flag, I am very disappointed with the patriotic spirit they showed.

“Even the multi-national companies in Sendayan industrial areas put up Malaysia national flag, but Malaysians failed to do so,” he told reporters after the weekly exco meeting here today.

He said he would instruct the state government to take the action against the errant operators.

“Operators failed to follow the rules will not be able to renew their business licenses. What we asked is to put up the national flag to show their love for the country, it is not difficult.

“Look at foreign countries, such as United States. The people there display high spirit when celebrating their independence day in July, even if they achieved their independent some over 200 years ago,” he said.
