27th Malaysia Film Festival announced technical award winners

KUALA LUMPUR: The 27th Malaysia Film Festival (MFF) raised its curtains yesterday with a ceremony which saw the presentation of 10 technical awards.

Held at the Symphony Lake Suite at KL City Park, in KLCC, the event was officiated by Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari.

Los Angeles-based singer Yunalis Zarai's tune Lautan clinched Best Motion Picture Soundtrack for the 2014 film Lagenda Budak Setan 3: Kasyah, while KRU International Sdn Bhd's (a subsidiary of KRU Studios) Ribbit won Best Feature Animated Film.

Best Animated Series went to Glue Studios Sdn Bhd's Rimba Racer.

Other winners included Ooi Su Lyn and Teoh Eng Hooi for Best Original Music Score (Manisnya Cinta Di Cappadocia); Mirage Works for Best Special Effect (Seventh); Elaine Ng and Wing Shum for Best Costume Design (Hungry Ghost Ritual); Winson Poon for Best Audio (Hungry Ghost Ritual); Tunku Mohd Taufek and Tunku Tommy Mansur for Best Artistic Visual (Lelaki Harapan Dunia); and Cho We Jun for Best Short Film (Salvaj).

Behind-the-Scenes Advocate award went to film editor Mariam Ibrahim.

The event, co-hosted by Along Cham and Zulin Aziz, was attended by National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) director-general Datuk Kamil Othman; and Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.

Among the celebrities present were Jaafar Onn, Nad Zainal and Raja Azmi.

Meanwhile, the main awards will be presented at the 27th MFF gala night to be held at the Plenary Hall, KLCC on Saturday.

A total of 56 films will be competing in 31 categories at this year’s MFF.

Liew Seng Tat’s Lelaki Harapan Dunia takes the lead with 13 nominations, which include Best Director and Best Film categories.
