Police record statements from Perak DAP regarding Bersih 4

TAIPING: State DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Aulong assemblyman Leow Thye Yik have their statements recorded today at the district police headquarters here to help investigations on a recent illegal rally.

The duo arrived at the police headquarters about 11.30am and had their statements recorded for about 30 minutes.

Nga later told reporters that they were investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act for their involvement in the recent Bersih 4 rally.

He claimed that the success of the recent rally proved that Malaysians could have a peaceful assembly in a civilized manner.

He also expressed his "sympathy" to the police for being forced to record statements of those who attended the rally.

"The government should not exploit the police. Let the police combat crime which is their primary duty," said Nga who is Taiping member of parliament and Pantai Remis assemblyman

However, Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Harrith Kam Abdullah when contacted explained that the DAP leaders' statements were recorded to assist police investigation on a small rally held here on Aug 28.
