LRT 3 PDP to be named next week

KUALA LUMPUR: PRASARANA Malaysia Bhd will announce the project delivery partner (PDP) for the RM9 billion light rail transit line three (LRT 3) project earliest by next week.

Group managing director Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said the company has finalised the PDP for LRT 3, but there are still some technicalities that needed to be ironed out.

“We are aiming for next week on the decision of the PDP. Barring that, we are confident of issuing it within September itself,” he told Business Times at the Rail Business Asia 2015 conference, here, yesterday.

“As you know, we had initially wanted to announce the PDP in July, but had instead pushed it to the second half of the year for better preparation,” Azmi said.

There are seven shortlisted contenders for the PDP award. They are Gamuda Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd joint venture (JV), Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd and George Kent (M) Bhd JV, UEM Group Bhd,Naza Group and China-based partner CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd, Sunway Bhd, WCT Bhd and AlloyMtd group.

LRT 3 from Bandar Utama to Klang will span about 36km in length with 25 stations, including an underground station.

The LRT 3 is expected to be operational in 2020.

The line from Bandar Utama will go on to Tropicana before cutting across HICOM-Glenmarie Industrial Park and heading for Shah Alam via Section 13 near the Shah Alam Stadium, Universiti Teknologi Mara in Section 2 and i-City in Section 7.

It will then head to Bukit Raja and the Klang KTM Komuter station before heading further south for Bukit Tinggi and Johan Setia.

Azmi noted that once the PDP award has been announced, Prasarana will be on the next stage for the LRT line implementation, which is the design and construction.

Tender for the PDP was opened in December last year and had received interest from 18 companies.

The PDP award is said to emulate the concept that was first used in the Sungai Buloh-Kajang mass rapid transit (MRT) line by Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd.

Under the MRT agreement, the PDP will receive a fee of six per cent of the total aggregate work package contract value.
