Sabak Bernam mishap: 2 bodies, 1 survivor arrive at Hutan Melintang jetty

TELUK INTAN: Two more bodies and a survivor arrived at Hutan Melintang jetty here today.

The trio, all men, arrived via Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) boat at about 3.10pm, about 36 hours after the incident occurred yesterday.

A source from MMEA said the survivor was found adrift five nautical miles from the place where the boat was reported to have capsized.

“Our men found him holding on a drift wood while a floating body was found nearby.

“Another body was found by a local fisherman,” he said at the Search and Rescue Operation Centre at Hutan Melintang jetty near here today.

The survivor, believed to be in his 30s, looked traumatised and exhausted and was immediately taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.

The two bodies were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for post mortem.

It is reported that about 20 passengers, believed to be illegal immigrants, drowned when the boat with up to 70 passengers capsized near Sabak Bernam in Selangor early yesterday.
