Police seize RM176,600 worth of drugs, arrest 5 suspects in 2 cases

SUNGAI BULOH: Police say they have foiled two cases of drug trafficking with the arrest of five suspects and seizure of drugs worth RM176,600.

In the first case, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a man and woman were caught transporting one kilogramme of ganja, 100 erimin 5 pills and six bottles of liquid containing codeine in a car here.

They were detained at 10.30pm on March 13 by members of the Petaling Jaya police headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

After questioning the couple, Hussein said the police proceeded to a house in Seri Kembangan and arrested another two male suspects.

"Upon searching the house, we discovered 31 packets of suspected ganja, totaling approximately 8.2 kilogrammes, along with 73 erimin 5 pills and a bottle suspected to contain codeine, estimated at 2,000 millilitres.

"A check showed that only one suspect had a record of drug offences," he said in a press conference here today.

Hussein said preliminary screening found that two of the suspects were positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The total value of drug seizures in this case amounted to RM31,600, believed to be for the Klang Valley market. The police also seized one motorcycle valued at RM8,000 and one electronic tablet valued at RM4,000.

In the second case, the police arrested a 44-year-old widowed labourer in Sabak Bernam and seized 8,900 erimin 5 pills worth RM145,000.

Hussein said the suspect had a history of five drug offences, with two active warrants.

"The initial urine test confirmed the presence of methamphetamine," he said.

He said the seized drugs were believed to be intended for sale in the Klang Valley.

The police also confiscated RM100 from the suspect and he faces the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
