Maria Chin among eight charged over #KitaLawan rallies

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and eight others were charged today over their alleged involvement in a series of #KitaLawan rallies early this year.

Maria, Bersih committee member Mandeep Singh, Bayan Baru member of parliament Sim Tze Tzin, Teja assemblyman Chang Lih Kang, Jingga 13 coordinator Mohd Fariz Abd Talib@Musa, activist Adam Adli Abd Halim and three others were hauled to three separate courts to face charges that include participation in illegal assembly and sedition.

Maria, Mandeep, Sim, and Fariz were accused of taking part in the illegal assembly that began at Jalan Tun Perak and ended at Sogo shopping mall here between 3.15pm and 6pm on March 28.

Adam Adli and Fariz were alleged to have taken part in a #KitaLawan unlawful gathering that began at Sogo and ended at Esplanade KLCC here between 4pm and 7.30pm on Feb 28.

Chang, Rozan Azen Mat Rasip, and PKR member Lee Chean Chung were purported to have taken part in a #KitaLawan illegal rally that began at Sogo and ended at Jalan Tun Perak between 4.30pm and 5.05pm on March 21.

Freelance lecturer Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar was accused of committing sedition during a #KitaLawan rally at Sogo here around 4.30pm on Feb 21.

All nine accused claimed trial: Maria, Mandeep, Fariz, and Sim before magistrate Muhamad Faizal Ismail; Adam Adli and Fariz before magistrate Mohd Rehan Mohd Aris; Chang, Rozan, and Lee before

magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan; and Fakhrulrazi before Faizal.

Maria, Mandeep, Fariz, Sim, Adam Adli, Chang, Rozan, and Lee were each allowed RM500 bail with one surety. Fakhrulrazi was granted RM1,000 bail with one surety.

The case involving Maria, Mandeep, Fariz, Sim, Chang, Rozan, and Lee would come up for mention on Oct 16.

Adam Adli and Fariz's case linked to the Feb 28 rally is fixed for mention on Oct 19. Fakhrulrazi's case would come up for mention on Dec 11.
