Haze: 16 areas with unhealthy API

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 16 areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading as of 2pm today.

According to the Department of Environment (DOE), Port Klang, Port Dickson and Pasir Gudang recorded highest API readings with 139, 127, and 126, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi in Johor recorded 124, followed by Shah Alam (123) and Nilai (122).

Banting in Selangor recorded an API of 121, closely followed by Bukit Rambai, Malacca (120), Bandaraya Melaka (118), Batu Muda (112), Putrajaya and Seremban ( both 110), Petaling Jaya (109), Kuala Selangor (107), Larkin Lama (106) and Samarahan (106).

A total of 26 areas recorded moderate APIs, while 7 areas recorded good air quality with one reading for USM, Penang being unavailable.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said no flight operations nationwide were affected by the haze as of 11am.

Its spokesman Ahmad Shahreen Ramli said there were no flight delays or cancellations or any airport closure.

“But if the visibility is below 550 we will have to close the runway, because we do not want to risk the safety of the passengers or crew”.

Due to the haze last Saturday, flights in and out of Subang Airport were suspended from about 5pm to 7.45pm due to poor visibility.

An API reading categorised as good (between 0 and 50), moderate (51 to 100, unhealthy (101 to 200) (unhealthy), very unhealthy (201 to 300) and hazardous (300 and above).
