Five detained over attack on immigration officers

NILAI: Police have detained five suspects linked to Wednesday’s attack on Immigration Department officers who were checking an entertainment outlet in Taman Melaka Raya, Malacca.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were also hunting for several other individuals linked to the case.

“We have identified those involved in the incident and yesterday, we arrested five suspects to assist the investigation. Police are also hunting several others believed to have been involved in the incident.”

He said police would not tolerate any act of obstructing government officers from discharging their duties, even more so if the acts involve aggression.

“We will take stern action against them as such acts cannot be accepted,” he told a press conference after opening the SK Mantin Canteen Day and alumni ceremony, here today.

It was reported that a group of men had attacked 19 immigration enforcement officers over a raid the team had conducted at an entertainment outlet.
