Haze: Three airports reopened

KUALA LUMPUR: Three airports in Subang, Perak and Kedah resumed its operations after being closed due to low visibility level caused by the haze.

Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) spokesman said the Subang runway resumed operations at 9.15am, Ipoh runway at 10.30am and Kedah airport at 10.42 am.

"Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (SAAS) airport in Subang was closed at 6.35am, while Sultan Azlan Shah airport (LTASAS) in Ipoh at 7.30am and Sultan Abdul Halim airport (SAH) in Alor Star at 7.20am.

"The three airports had to be closed due to visibility level plunging below 500m," he told the New Straits Times.

Meanwhile, LTASAS Malaysian Airports Berhad manager Mohd Ali Osman said at one time visibility at the runway dropped to 500m forcing the authorities to close it.

"The runway was reopened at 10.30am after visibility improved to 1,200m," he said when contacted here today.

He noted that during the runway closure, no flights were affected.
