Haze: 6 areas with very unhealthy API (with video)

KUALA LUMPUR: Two biggest cities in Malaysia continue to be choked with "very unhealthy" air quality, breaching the 200 Air Pollutant Index (API) as of noon today.

Air quality in Selangor was badly affected with Shah Alam (282), Banting (233), Port Klang (237), Petaling Jaya (231). Shah Alam had earlier reached the hazardous level of 308 at 9am.

While in Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur, the API reading was at 245 and 236 for Putrajaya.

Air quality in another 24 areas is at unhealthy level of above 100 API readings.

In Johor; Muar (140), Kedah; Alor Star (157) and Sg Patani (158), Langkawi (102), Malacca; (Malacca City (162) and Bukit Rambai (165), Negri Sembilan; Nilai (189), Port Dickson (180) and Seremban (191), Pahang; Balok Baru (120), Indera Mahkota (107) and Jerantut (150), Perak; Taiping (159), Ipoh (188), Seri Manjung (131), Penang; Perai (148), Seberang Jaya (174), USM (172), Kuala Selangor (172), Kemaman (136), Kuala Terengganu (122), Paka (122) and Cheras (181).

Meanwhile in Senai, Malindo Air rescheduled all eight of its morning flights to Senai International Airport to 1pm today when the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang was closed due to the haze.

The airline's chief executive officer Chandra Rama Murthy said the eight flights were delayed when the worsening haze, especially in Shah Alam recorded a hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) at 9am today.

Chandra said there were no cancellation as the affected flights will depart to Senai starting 1pm.

"The first flight from Subang to Senai will be by 1pm, " he said when contacted by the New Straits Times.

Due to the worsening haze affecting parts of Selangor, the airport in Subang was closed for four hours.
